Basketball Alumni Night

On February 3^rd, a basketball alumni night will be held to recognize all former players. The game will be between Duluth and Collins Hill. The girls’ game will start at 6:00 p.m., and the boys’ game will start at 7:30 p.m. GO WILDCATS!

Duluth PROBE Fair

Duluth High School is having another PROBE fair this year. It’s open to all juniors on February 13 in the old gym. The PROBE fair will be held during all lunches starting at 10:45 and ending at 12:45. Over 60 colleges will be attending the PROBE fair this year. This fair is a great way for rising seniors to learn about great opportunities that colleges have to offer. Many colleges from across the country will be there promoting and showing all they have to offer to interested students.

Laser Voyage Café & Arcade

On Saturday, January 28, Laser Voyage Café in Duluth celebrated its grand opening. Laser Voyage Café is an indoor, pirate themed laser tag attraction. The exciting new place features hidden rooms, fog filled passages, plank board mazes, gunpowder barrels, and a skeleton pirate captain awaiting anyone that reaches the top of the ship. The café also contains an arcade where customers can find NASCAR racing, basketball, DDR, Time Crisis, Skeeball, Jumpin’ Jackpot, Deal or No Deal, Air Hockey, and much more. This nautical themed heart-racer is illuminated only by black light; everything else is left in the dark. Laser Voyage Café can be found at 1866 Buford Hwy. Duluth, GA 30096. Mondays are private events days and are not open to the public. Tuesday-Thursday hours are: 3:00pm-9:00pm, Friday: 3:00pm-11:00pm, Saturday: 11:00am-11:00pm, and Sunday: 11:00am-9:00pm. The prices vary on different days. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, one game is $7.50 and three games are $20. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, one game is $8.50 and three games are $22. There is also a Laser Maze Challenge that anyone can play for $5. If you are in need of something fun to do, come out and support your local Duluth community at Laser Voyage Café!

Contraband Review

The highly anticipated action flick, Contraband, drew large audiences with its star-studded cast. Mark Wahlberg and Ben Foster stand out in this action packed joy ride about Chris Faraday (Wahlberg), a world class smuggler, running counterfeit money into the country in an attempt to save his brother-in-law’s life.

Contraband provides plenty of excitement with the numerous shootouts and suspenseful twists, but the plot seemed to develop too quickly. After one scene, the plot began to thicken very quickly, which didn’t leave much time to develop the characters. The movie was very fast paced, and it left me wanting more. With such a noteworthy cast, there wasn’t much of an excuse for this movie to be anything less than terrific. However, despite strong performances by Wahlberg and Foster, the movie failed to meet my expectations. It wasn’t very different from many other films in its genre. Contraband was decent, but had the potential to be so much more.
