NeverShoutNever has been growing ever since it first began in 2007. Christofer Drew has been successful in the alternative scene at writing songs about love, girls, and peace. Drew has been making EP’s with more popular songs, but with his debut album and his first full length album “What Is Love?” and now Drew’s second album called “Harmony”. Drew still shows the cheesy, but catchy love songs.

Christopher Drew’s album “Harmony” has more of a John Lennon feel to it. It’s still a bit weird and catchy, but it has lyrics about love, peace. This album has eleven songs in total; the first is a classic NSN song called “Harmony” and is one of the best on the album. Drew’s complete and utter awkwardness about girls and love is more obvious than ever on “Harmony”. Another standout song on the album is called “Cheatercheaterbestfriendeater”. Drew’s lovable personality and creativity have been making more and more music that fans will love. If you go buy his new CD “Harmony” which is now already out in stores, it will include seeds to be planted, maybe to make the world a better place? Christopher drew is brilliant with music. This album is sure to make listeners feel warm and happy inside.

The 2010 National College Match program is partnered with some of the nation’s top four-year universities like Princeton, Brown, Emory, Stanford, and Yale.

If the student has achieved academic excellence throughout their high school career, the student is eligible for the scholarship that would pay for the full cost of tuition and cost of room and board. The majority of the partnered colleges also include the cost of books, travel expenses, health insurance, and a summer work package for personal expenses.

With an unfixed criterion for GPA, SAT scores, and income, virtually anyone is eligible for the scholarship. Last year, QuestBridge gave admission to over 1,000 students and aided in more than $100 million in financial aid. Applications for the National College Match scholarship are due on September 30, 2010.

Lacey Ricks (’12) is a second year player on the team, now on Varsity. Ricks says that the goals for the team this year are to work together, beat the team’s record from last year, raise money for the booster club and have a great time playing.

The premiere of the fifth season of Keeping up with the Kardashians aired Sunday on E!. The episode had a record 4.7 million viewers, increasing 14 percent from last year. It now ranks as E!’s second most-viewed telecast, trailing only the season four premiere of the show. The much anticipated episode featured the expected relationship issues of Scott and Kourtney and also a dramatic Kim freak-out. Problems also arose between the joined-at-the-hip sisters, Kourtney and Khloe, when Khloe refused to let Scott into the house she shares with her husband, Lamar Odom. The end of the episode shows Kourtney moving into Kim’s new four million dollar home to avoid future issues concerning Khloe and her baby’s father. As the previews imply, the Kardashian family will be undoubtedly providing yet another exciting season.

Mrs. Leigh Frere, a five year cancer survivor, decided that Duluth should do its part and help the American Cancer Society and form a Relay for Life club.

“Student involvement is the key to success with this particular organization,” Frere said.

Last year the club did several very successful fundraisers, bringing in a total income of $7,500 dollars. One of their fundraisers was Bells for Teachers. Students could purchase a bell for fifty cents and give it to their favorite teacher. This year their goal is to raise over $10,000 dollars; they are hoping that student involvement will bring them to that total.

Frere believes that commitment of the students is what runs this organization. She knows that most people will eventually know or have met someone who has or had cancer whether it is a parent, relative, teacher, or friend. The ideas of the students are what get the rest of the school interested and that she just guides them in the right direction in order to get their goal accomplished.

“This is my passion,” Frere said.

Watching the students get excited about being involved in something they are

proud of drives her to push the club more.

With all of the student body participating in the Relay for Life fundraisers, the school contributes to the worldwide funds to find a cure for cancer. The club focuses on raising as much as they can. The people in this organization want to make a difference in a person’s life and believe that being in Relay for Life they can help accomplish that.

Mackenzie’s Questions:

Q: Why are people so rude to my friends and me when we’re talking in the hallway?
A: Probably because you’re blocking the hallway. It’s not just you that has to get to class on time; there are 2300 other students as well. Even though it’s just freshmen in the 600 building this year, there are other grades that have to walk through the building. Remember that the next time you and 15 of your closest friends decide to have a conversation in the middle of the hallway and an annoyed senior tells you to “get out of my way.”

Q: Why do freshmen get such a bad reputation? As a freshman, I think we’re pretty good at this whole high school thing.
A: Because freshmen can be unknowingly doing the “wrong” thing. It’s as simple as that. Once you’re in school for about three months, you’ll come to understand the importance of things like using the correct side of the stairs when going up or down (just so you know, students going up go on your left, and students coming down go on your right side of the stairs), saying sorry when you bump into someone (especially an upperclassmen), and not being loud or obnoxious in the hallways or at lunch.

Max’s Questions:

Q: Should I be concerned for Freshman Friday?
A: Of course not! You should always feel safe at school and if you feel otherwise, advise a teacher and or Assistant Principal.

Q: Am I able to join any clubs after school?
A: Absolutely! There are plenty of clubs you can join. Just make sure not to stretch yourself out too thin.

Student elections are taking place this week.. With many candidates running, the competition is tough. There especially is a huge battle in the senior class candidates. Seniors are fighting to win the election for many different purposes. Being the most upper-class, they make a lot of the decisions that we see here at school each day. Another huge part of winning the election is the chance to speak at graduation.

One of the many candidates running is Alis Agayn. Alis is a senior. She hopes to have Duluth be more present at school activities.

“Duluth needs an upgrade in school spirit. We, as a school, need to attend more school games. Not just football games, but tennis, volleyball, softball, soccer, basketball and all the other sports. Also, not with just attending the games, we also need to participate in school clubs. Join as many clubs as you can. It’s a great way to meet new people and help out our school and community. We need to make sure to attend the monthly meetings and be sure to participate completely,” Agayn says.

Since there is a lot of competition running for senior president, Alis Agayn was asked why she wanted the title.

“I want to be senior president because I represent our senior class the best. I want to make this last year memorable. I will do everything to make sure we have the best last year of high school. After all, I love our senior class!” Alis says.

Another candidate running for the senior election is Aveek Sarker. Aveek is also a senior at Duluth High School. He is running for the spot of Vice President.

“I hope to do a lot for our senior class. I want our school to be top notch. Our school needs to have everything organized and clean. I want to make all the water fountains work and make sure that all the bathrooms are clean. Students should feel safe and should learn in a clean environment. Also, of course I want to help our president,” Aveek says.

Aveek takes all AP classes and says he is fit for this position because he is smart, and is willing to take the opinions all of our Duluth High School student body.

The election will take place on Monday August 30, 2010 during Advisement. Monday is the time to cast our votes, Duluth!
